Reunion
Since it is Memorial Day weekend, I thought sharing a song I wrote called "Reunion" would be very fitting and hopefully touching to anyone out there who is in need. In my faith we believe that when someone we love leaves us it is not goodbye and that we will see them again. What an incredible miracle it is to have that knowledge. I look forward to those "reunions" and this song will always remind me of that. I've always had a special place in my heart for this song and it actually has a really fun back story to it so let's take a stroll down memory lane for a moment shall we?
The summer before my Junior year in High School I went to EFY in Flagstaff Arizona. My testimony grew, I had a wonderful experience, and like a lot of girls that have gone to EFY, I came home hopelessly in love with an EFY boy ;) The distance between us nearly crippled my young heart and I thought I'd never be able to survive! Luckily a good song always seemed to come out of a broken heart so I went to the piano to ease my pain. I originally called this song "Our Last Goodbye" but as time would soon tell it turned out that it actually wasn't our last goodbye after all! Hehe! He flew here to see me and I flew out to see him a few times and we stayed in touch for many years.....So I eventually changed the name of the song to "Reunion."
As I was looking for a copy of this song I came across an old notebook that, consequently enough, had the lyrics I wrote that went along with this song. I hadn't read them in years and I never let anyone read/hear them (except for the EFY boy) so I was hesitant to share them here, but since this is pretty much a musical journal I'm just going to swallow my pride and shake off my embarrassment and write them down just in case I ever lose that notebook. So as you listen to this song I invite you to picture an awkward high school Beckee singing this quietly to herself, all alone with her broken heart with tears running down her blotchy red cheeks......haha JK! Please don't picture that! Haha! Ok here are the lyrics-
~Reunion~
Here is a tale
of love and promise
A story in my time
of someone who vanished before he was mine.
That day we met
we both could feel it
something in our eyes
captured our hearts and our souls for all time.
And when I'd catch you looking at me
I cant deny
A longingness inside of me that tears can only cry.
And it feels like we should be dancing
forever you and I.
With time and space between us
remember....our last goodbye.
Why did this happen to just you and me?
Is there a higher plan we just cant see?
And maybe I will see you
someday in time...
If faith is understanding
then why?
And I wish that we were dancing
forever you and I
With time and space between us
remember....our last goodbye.
Just in case you were picturing me crying and singing this to myself, let me give you some fun facts about this song to cheer you up!
Fun Fact #1- I entered this song into my school's reflections contest and won first place at my school, in the district, and made it all the way to the state competition level where I got an honorable mention.
Fun Fact #2- My senior year I played this song in my school's Orchestration Night with the entire orchestra! It was an incredible night!!! (I also got to wear a sparkly black dress which is always a fun thing)
Fun Fact #3- The cellist you hear playing in this song is the one and only Steve Nelson from The Piano Guys! He is my brother's best friend so he stepped in and recorded this song with me :)
Well there you have it! I hope you like this song and I hope you can hear the hope of a glorious reunion in there somewhere :) Thanks for listening!
